Programme Note
This piece was commissioned by the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra for its seventieth anniversary. Antheil completed the work by Christmas 1949, and it was premiered in St. Louis on February 18, 1950, by the conductor Vladimir Golschmann.
An up-tempo romp through a few adventures with Tom Antheil exploits the orchestra's full forces to deliver a power-packed portrayal of a favorite childhood character.
