• World premieres by Aaron Jay Kernis are getting to be almost old hat. The opening work, his OVERTURE IN FEET AND METERS, is his third in as many weeks. In adapting the second movement of his STRING QUARTET NO. 2 Kernis has reconceived the music for full orchestra. Based on Renaissance and Baroque dances, he creates a sparkling piece that exploits the full range of the orchestra's colors. It is a richly melodic work, fully of energy and verve, that will only add to his burgeoning reputation.
