Synopsis:
Set in the 18th century, this tale focuses on Countess Laura who has spurned the advances of the wicked old Colonel Ollendorf. Seeking revenge, the Colonel finds an impoverished student named Symon and convinces Laura and her ambitious mother that he is a Polish prince. The pair fall in love and are married. But what the Colonel doesn't realise that the beggar student is in fact of noble lineage.
