Programme Note
In 2010 we celebrate the 100th anniversary of the birth of Samuel Barber with a new complete edition of his classic Reincarnations, with historical introduction, and newly edited music engravings based on the composer's manuscript. The title refers to the Irish poet James Stephens' technique of writing new poems in English based on Gaelic sources. Includes: “Mary Hynes,” “Anthony O'Daly,” and “The Coolin.”
Reviews
-
Reincarnations (SATB) are depictions of three Irish characters. They are ideal concert material for mixed choirs: challenging but not too difficult, and with plenty of contrasts in the textures, including some very satisfying counterpoint.
