Programme Note
For cello and percussion, in unison.
The percussionist also plays a cello. The cellist and the percussionist sit side by side playing, sitting and moving rhythmically in unison. The percussionist uses only her hands, slapping and stroking and tapping in unison with the cello part. the percussionist is not obligated to mirror the notes or phrases or directions of the cello part and is encouraged to find as many interesting and dramatic ways to sound the cello as she can.
stuttered chant was written for, and dedicated to, Maya Beiser and Evelyn Glennie, who premiered it 11 November, 2011, at the University of California, Los Angeles
The work will be available for performance after 11 November, 2012.
