
The 2008 BBC Proms Season has now been announced and promises to be another interesting concert series. This year's festival will run from July 18 to September 13, featuring a wide selection of works from the Music Sales catalogues.
Alongside the celebration of Vaughan Williams’ anniversary and the Messiaen centenary, the contribution of
Elliott Carter is recognised in this, his 100th birthday year. On July 21, in the first Chamber Music Prom of the season at
Cadogan Hall, Pierre-Laurent Aimard performs Carter’s 1980 work
Night Fantasies .
The BBC National Orchestra of Wales, conducted by Thierry Fischer perform the world premiere of the BBC commission
Troubled Light by
Simon Holt on July 25. Another BBC commission to be premiered during this season is
Gaudete by young Scottish composer
Stuart MacRae. This performance by the BBC Symphony Orchestra conducted by Edward Gardner, features Swedish soprano Susanna Andersson and takes place on August 10.
On August 27
The Whale , the early cantata by
John Tavener, will be performed by the London Sinfonietta, who gave its premiere 40 years ago. This concert also includes the UK premiere of
Cantus Mysticus featuring soprano Patricia Rozario and Mark van de Wiel on the clarinet.
