Kevin Volans and Sisu
No stranger to writing percussion music,
Kevin Volans
has rewritten his virtuosic trio
Chakra
for percussion ensemble and orchestra. The original work was written for the dynamic Norwegian trio Sisu and it is they who have commissioned this new version.
Like two of Volans’ previous percussion works,
Akrodha
(1998) and
Asanga
(1997), he has given this piece a Sanskrit name. 'Chakra' means 'wheel' - a name which reflects some moments in the piece. The world premiere will take place on September 14 with the Norwegian Radio Orchestra as part of The Ultima Festival in Oslo. The conductor will be Ingar Bergby.
