Born and raised in Buffalo, New York, he received his Bachelor of Arts Degree in trumpet performance from SUNY at Buffalo in 1992. He was accepted into the University of Southern California's Film Scoring Program, where he studied with the late Jerry Goldsmith. At the age of thirty-two, he moved to Southern California to pursue a career in film composition and orchestration.
