Programme Note

Scena III was written in August 1977 at the request of the Park Lane Group. Life Scena I (for piano) and Scena II (for solo cello) it is a short continuous work of a dramatic nature, containing several strongly contrasted tempi. It is prefaced by a quotation from e.e. cummings:

‘Then shall I turn my face, and hear
One bird sing terribly afar in the lost lands.’
