Programme Note

I had the first idea for Tol-Pedn when walking along the cliffs of south Cornwall. Although the wind and waves crashed violently against the rocks, I felt that the place had a sense of underlying calm, which I have tried to reflect in this piece. The alto flute part is based on an In Nomine by William Byrd; the piece belongs to the 'In Nomine Broken Consort Book' which contains works written by over 20 different composers for Ensemble Recherche.

Reviews

  • "It was astonishing to witness the strength of emotion he conjures up in the short and wispy Tol-Pedn (...) It's silence was compelling."
    Kenneth Walton, The Scotsman, 21/08/2001
