Programme Note
MATTINATA – TONGUES OF FIRE (1992) for organ The two related organ pieces “Notturno -Tongues of Night” (quoting Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet: “So silver sweet sound lovers´ tongues by night”) and “Mattinata - Tongues of Light “ may be performed separately or together. Whereas “Notturno”, with its ambiguous melodies lines reminds us of the nightly dream life, the short alternating motives in “Mattinata” arranged in changing patterns (like zippers, musical boxes or other non-profundities) is reflecting at least one aspect - the cheerfulness of “morning music”. (But perhaps also the ecstasy of its strong light...). ”Mattinata” was composed 1992, and dedicated Jens E. Christensen. Per Nørgård
