Reviews

  • As one would expect this is a demanding work, calling for experienced, confident singers to cope with it frequent dissonance and rhythmic complexity and requirement for ululation. It is an arresting setting of this dramatic text, with the middle verse characterised by unremitting dissonance, its effect emphasised by performance directions including 'brual' and 'savage'. This gradually subsides and the dissonace becomes less harsh, as the harp closes the piece with wn ehterel ascending figure.
