Reviews

  • The big piece here of course is the PIANO SONATA, composed in 1949, subsequently taken up by Vladimir Horowitz, and now well-established as part of standard 20th-century piano literature. It's a ferocious, explosive piece, [with] its lyrical and filigree moments too. This recording by Daniel Pollack, whose performance in the 1958 Tchaikovsky Competition (and subsequent Melodiya recording) brought him widespread admiration, proves him to be as accomplished an exponent of [the work] now as he was 40 years ago.
