There was little agonizing over a recording for myself. Karel Husa remains best known for his powerful MUSIC FOR PRAGUE 1968, yet these chamber works for winds show him in a different light. Quirky, charming and gentle with wit and humanity cast in an edgy style, and are tackled with full-metal jacket virtuosity and huge panache by the Quintet of the Americas
Lawrence A. Johnson, Gramophone

The mode of expression is mainly quiet, the quality of thematic invention high...[with] a depth and simplicity way beyond the range of most contemporary chamber music...FIVE POEMS from 1994 show that he hasn't lost the knack. They are evocations of the life of birds that avoid any Messiaenic overtures, while extending the wind quintet's expressive range, again in a quiet way.
Paul Ingram, Fanfare
