The Kirchner Triptych...is a welcome addition to the rather slim repertoire for this combination of instruments. On the scale of the Ravel Sonata for Violin and Cello, the piece has the satisfying heft of a string quartet. Kirchner has always had a special affinity for string writing, and this rhapsodic, rhythmically inventive dialogue...is wonderfully idiomatic and colorful. Like all of Kirchner's music, the piece is an elegantly crafted text for a drama that mimics spontaneity and at times even borders on hysteria, but does so within a sensuous and beautiful language. Kirchner is well known, but not well enough.
Allen Shawn, The Atlantic Monthly

Triptych is an extended work for solo cello, followed by duo for violin and cello (magically linked by a note shared by cello and offstage violin and finale. The solo cello piece is dark and passionate; the duet shimmers ecstatically.
Richard Dyer, The Boston Globe

The Triptych begins with a ruminative, fitful, arresting movement for solo cello. The mood shifts completely in the second movement when the violin enters with soloistic fervor and the cello serves as an obbligato instrument. The final presto pits the players in heavy-duty competition.
Anthony Tommasini, The New York Times
