Programme Note
For four-part chorus of mixed voices with alto and bass solos and keyboard accompaniment by Samuel Adler. I Will Magnify You is number five of the Chandos Anthems composed between 1716 and 1718 for the chapel of James, Duke of Chandos, by Handel. Originally written for STB chorus with tenor and soprano soloists, Handel recomposed it for larger forces in the version that is presented in this new edition. Texts are taken from Psalms 89, 96 and 145. Like the other Chandos Anthems, I Will Magnify You is a powerful example of Handel's choral writing at its best.
