Programme Note
Inspired by the Emily Dickinson poem "Ah the Sea, Might I but Moor Tonight in Thee" and the Edna St. Vincent Millay poem "A Quickening Gust of Wind Flew Up To Me," Leon Kirchner presented L.H. to Leon Fleisher as a surprise in the summer of 1995.
Fleisher premiered the left-hand piece when in December 1995 at New York City's Carnegie Hall.

...Kirchner's Piece for Left Hand music that was passionate yet highly civilized, beautifully organized but implying great freedom.
Bernard Holland, The New York Times
