Reviews
Pärt's PRO ET CONTRA, from 1966...is disputatious and funny. The solos...make the cello a percussion instrument with their vivid slaps and twangs; they also provide a playground for virtuoso drama. Short phrases, one very different from the last, bounce around the small orchestra, creating a kind of contentious yet good-natured town meeting.
