Reviews
The orchestral music is vividly realized. A "streetcar" theme, combining the "woowoo" of an old train whistle and the "wawwaw" of New Orleans blues, serves as a kind of leitmotif. Elsewhere, strings rise in sweet poignancy for Blanche's monologue, and brasses and a sax howl in anticipation of her wish to die. The BSO played with assurance and commitment and offered testimony to the strength of the orchestration.
