• When we said that Surinach’s Drama Jondo is masterful, we meant that the composer has mastered the rhythms of his native Spain and the strict disciplines of symphonic form. It is refreshing to find someone who brings new freshness to recognized traditions in this age, when smashing forms and breaking rules seems to attract the most attention. Drama Jondo is compressed and intricate and bold. If music were color, it would be bright gold, scarlet, black and forest green. Surinach makes the fullest possible use of the entire orchestra at every moment.
