Programme Note

Now fatal change, for solo violin and counter-tenor, sets the poem The Blessed Virgin’s Expostulation by Nahum Tate (1652-1715). A meditation on a single moment of trauma, the piece is split into five short movements, each representing a sequentially heightened stage of anguish in the protagonist.

PERFORMANCE NOTE
Now Fatal Change should ideally be performed as a continuous song cycle.
Alternatively, the individual movements may be performed in order but interspersed
with other music or events over the course of a concert.
