• The euphonious title of the album, 'Once Around the Sun', refers to the 12 short pieces composed month by month as Classic FM's first composer-in-residence. His year-long journey reflects family outings, the British weather and the Hudson River, and is scored for piano, cello, violin, harp and percussion; in several instances sound effects - rain, birdsong - are added quite delightfully. Talbot seems to have enjoyed an enviably tranquil existence in 2004... many of these little poems ('May' and 'June', for instance) are undeniably haunting and, indeed, memorable.

• Classic FM's composer-in-residence comes up trumps with 'a journey through all 12 months of one year'. Talbot sends us on a spellbinding musical journey via a sequence of dreamily inspired miniatures. My favourite quickly established itself as 'April - the first day of summer', a free-swinging instrumental song of rejoicing, but there isn't a single track here that doesn't beguile the ear.
