• '...two discs which culls material from various independent labels as well as original Naxos recordings. The seminla 'In Alium' of 1968, for example, a Proms commission that in its day caused quite a stir. We also get 'To Child Dancing in the Wind', 'The Lamb', 'The Tyger', 'Zodiacs', 'Song for Athene' (music used at Princess Diana's funeral) and extracts from 'The Protecting Veil', 'Mandelion', 'Mother and Child' and other works. This 60th-birthday package boasts a 66-page booklet and revealing recorded interview fragments with the composer which should humble those grumpy doubters who suspect Tavener merely knows when he's onto a good thing. He may do, but that doesn't make the best of his work any less good.'
