To call this an attractive compilation of Davies pieces is misleading, in that their subject matter is so dark. Or, if not dark, disconcertingly bright. [...] Michael Bonaventure plays it with vehemence, and brings out the brooding quality of Three Organ Voluntaries, based on 16th-century motets.
