Best of the lot may be Aaron Jay Kernis' haunting, free-floating Sarabanda in Memoriam, a string-orchestra arrangement of a movement from his 1997 String Quartet No. 2.Mr. Corigliano's , commissioned for the 2004 opening of Chicago's Jay Pritzker Pavilion, the Grant Park Orchestra's summer home, oozes and swoops as if in response to architect Frank Gehry's design for the pavilion. John Harbison does an effectively tart, angular updating of the baroque dance-movement-based partita.
