Reviews

  • 'The most immediately brilliant of these pieces is Chamber Music III, subtitled The Nocturnal Dances of Don Juanquixote. Subsuming the two great Spanish picaresque anti-heroes into a single entity, Sallinen produces a scintillatingly virtuosic dance-suite for cello and strings, by turns soulful and debonair: it is one of his most attractive and listener-friendly works....All in all, this is an extremely valuable addition to CPO's Sallinen series, displaying sides of the composer not often glimpsed in his symphonies and operas.'
