Commissioned by The Tromp Percussion Competition Eindhoven and Muziekgebouw Frits Philips Eindhoven

Percussion (2 players):
Shared: Marimba Vibraphone (with 2 bows)
Percussion 1: Glockenspiel, Triangle, Two Woodblocks, Table of Junk, Floor Tom, Kick Drum
Percussion 2: Triangle, 2 Woodblocks, Table of Junk, Floor Tom, Kick Drum
The Table of Junk should consist of nine pieces of graduated metallic objects, positioned for maximum resonance. The objects, if they are indeed instruments, should be somewhat destroyed: dented cymbals, warped opera gongs, tambourines with badly damaged jingles. Metal mixing bowls with coins taped to them, lengths of pipe with children’s toys wrapped around them, etc. are good places to start. It is crucial, how- ever, that they be able to be played with the same sticks as the floor tom and the woodblocks

Programme Note

The Table of Junk should consist of nine pieces of graduated metallic objects, positioned for maximum resonance. The objects, if they are indeed instruments, should be somewhat destroyed: dented cymbals, warped opera gongs, tambourines with badly damaged jungles, metal mixing bowls with coins taped to them, lengths of pipe with children's toys wrapped around them, etc. are good places to start. It is crucial, however, that they be able to be played with the same sticks as the floor tom and the woodblocks.
